We make music therapy and education accessible by creating
personalized development plans with individuals and families directly. Our needs based grant program ensures individual development plan continuity. Provider grants are offered to providers of music therapy or education.
Rex & Friends has applied for 501c3 status with the IRS. We formed on July 10, 2012 as a California nonprofit public benefit corporation. Federal tax-exempt status, if applied for within 27 months of formation (which we have), is retroactive to the date of formation. Rex & Friends' federal tax identification number is 46-0737278.
The charity relies on private and corporate donations to fund operations. All staff and board members are unpaid volunteers.
Born blind, Rex was diagnosed with autism as a toddler, and then labeled a musical genius (piano) by the age of 7, when musicologists became astounded by Rex's ability to play back complex piano pieces he had heard only once, and then transpose them into other keys or improvise off themes with little effort.
